Is it just me?

I'm not too sure how alone I am in my opinion of this certain famous person, but I for one, cannot stand Beth Ditto. Reading the London Paper yesterday, I come across yet another editorial about her and Evans and the apparent 'genius' range. It's not genius, it's not even particularly nice. I find the whole fascination with her slightly pathetic, to be brutally honest. She doesn't fly the flag for curvy people, she flies the flag for morbidly obese people, and that is one flag that should not be flown. I am all for curvy woman gracing the catwalk/magazines/billboards, promoting a healthy body image for young girls but she isn't. Nothing about what she stands for is healthy, she is just as bad as the size zero debacle that caused such outrage over the last couple of years. I know she would probably lose a lot of her fanbase if she lost weight and sorted herself out, but its disgusting the way she is now lauded by the fashion industry - Katie Grand putting her naked on the front of Love? Please, its been done.
Rant over, I have been pretty busy as of late. It was my birthday over the weekend and I had held the annual Austin BBQ. It was lovely but required a lot of effort before and after (and not all of mine). So now I'm winding down, de-cluttering my life. anxiously waiting news of my interview for my dream job and adjusting to turning 23, wah!

Pretty baby with the high-heels on...

It's hard to be on the internet at the moment without coming across a story of any kind about Michael Jackson and his untimely demise, and I hate to add to the list but...
After flicking through an old copy of Elle that talked about Balmain's 2009 S/S 09, and having the iconic military jacket catch my eye, I came across an article in the Evening Standard today that talked about the trend for homage to the King of Pop.
Because he himself wore so much of the new line (even though it was designed mainly for women) it makes sense to pay your respects by wearing something he had previously advocated. And with Beyonce, Posh and Rihanna already rocking the look, you can bet your bottom dollar that it won't be long before the rest of the fashion pack follow suit.
Beats a white glove at Glastonbury, eh Lily?

Unrequited lust...

So, I am still hankering after the amazing Office 'Hold Me Back' Wonder Woman sandals, but now I have a new crush. After meeting a lovely lady at a cocktail tasting who was wearing these with a cute little nautical dress, I'm sold! They're perfectly stylish and would go with everything in my wardrobe, it just has to be fate. Luckily, my birthday is just over a week away, so maybe, just maybe they might be in my possession a little sooner than never!

Love is harmony, desire is the key

As previously mentioned, at the moment I find myself to be one of the statistics in the 18-24 unemployed category. And while I am most definately not alone in my search for the perfect job/career, I am finding the rejection and lack of potential work heartbreaking. Of course, there are a few advantages to having a lot of free time; spending lots of time with friends & family, catching up with trashy TV, reading lots of books & developing skills to ultimately land one of these illustrious, aforementioned jobs. But at the same time the massive factor lacking in my day-to-day adventures is good old fashioned money, which, at the moment I'm sincerely lacking! And since I devour every fashion magazine I can get my hold on, it is absolutely torture to see so many dresses, shoes, accessories etc that I cannot possibly afford. I am currently watching about a million vintage floral dresses on ebay in the hopes that one goes for a relatively low price!
I have, however, just upgraded my phone, seeing as my last one was so old I couldn't even receive picture messages! Now I am the proud owner of a Nokia E71, which I have been setting up and fiddling with all night. And it was free! Ah, gotta love the credit crunch.

Sad times...

You know when you think you have found them? By them I mean the perfect shoes. Ones you can put with any item in your wardrobe. That people comment on when they see them. That you can foresee spending lots of quality time with, ok maybe that's a bit far. But last week I found them, the shoes of my dreams. Vintage brown sandals from BHS back in the day. It was love at first sight, I snapped them up and wore them the first chance I got.
Which happened to be a trip to the National Gallery. Where my amazing shoes literally crumbled beneath my feet. How does that even happen? I left a trail of white chalky shoe goodness all around the gallery and now I'm amazing shoe-less. Damn.

Uncovering my secret

One of my favourite sunday activities is to spend the day wandering around a boot sale finding treasures and bargains galore. And for the last couple of years my favourite has been one in Battersea; it starts late in the day and I've always found amazing things, time after time. I went today for the first time in months and it was...disappointing. Granted, it was an amazingly hot day but it was so busy, and everyone was just so rude! Pushing through, ramming you with a trolley. Bootsales aren't the best places for toddlers really.
I did get a few things, Miss Dior Cherie for an amazing price, and possibly some amazingly tacky vintage pieces. Probably a waste of money, seeing as I'm going to Magaluf in 5 days!
The unemployed subject is still bone of contention, but I am trying!

All that glitters

I'm having a bit of a sequin binge on ebay at the moment. After seeing one of my favourite style crushes Whitney Port in a sequin jacket by DVF (natch) I have been hankering after sequins more than I'd care to admit. I have been scouring ebay and found a few gems, including the beauties pictured. The only problem being....I have no money! This unemployed situation is getting rather dire, I did apply for a job today though, hurray for me! I bought a beautiful sequin butterfly bolero a couple of years ago from my favourite bootsale and sold it for a stupid amount thinking I'd never wear it, pah!

Holiday blues

This blog malarky is taking me a while to get started for some reason. I have finished my internship and have just returned from a week in Turkey where I caught too much sun and spent way too much money. Turkey is actually a really nice place this time of year; not too hot, not too busy and still lots of markets and shops to look around. I got some lovely 'genuine fakes' and lots of tacky souvenirs.
During this down-time of job-searching and DIY clothing making expect a few more posts from yours truly, especially the next one featuring a pair of amazing old lady St Michael trousers that I will turn into Harem pants. Somehow.

The best shoes ever?

Ok, I feel that these shoes will probably end up dividing public opinion, but oh, I love them! And truth be told, I don't really know why. They aren't even usually my style but there is something about them I just have to have. I might even go as far as trying them on in Office tomorrow in my lunch break or something. Shame about the £65 price tag otherwise they would be in my possession!
So, would you?
